Peninsular Florida LCC is hiring a Communication Specialist

This position is directly supervised by the Communications Director for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) Division of Habitat and Species Conservation and is shared with the Peninsular Florida Landscape Conservation Cooperative, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Responsibilities are to lead communication activities for the Peninsular Florida LCC and participate in a team of communication professionals to provide a broad range of communications and marketing expertise to the FWC’s Division of Habitat and Species Conservation. The preferred position location is Tallahassee, FL, although other FWC regional locations may be considered on a case by case basis.

Specific tasks include:

  • Create outreach materials including brochures, fact sheets, web content and newsletters;
  • Write clear and concise news releases and media event invites;
  • Develop and maintain relationships with FWC and PFLCC staff, stakeholders and partner agencies;
  • Plan and participate in multi-agency meetings, workshops and events;
  • Act as liaison between partner agencies and FWC and PFLCC staff;
  • Develop communications platform for multi-agency project;
  • Regularly contribute to FWC social media including Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, YouTube and Instagram;
  • Answer questions from the media, public, staff and partners in a courteous and timely manner;
  • Clarify and provide details on technical and complex fish and wildlife issues using plain language; and
  • Perform other duties as requested by supervisor, division directors, and Peninsular Florida LCC Coordinator and LCC Science Coordinator
