Wednesday May 4th, 12-1pm AK
Ryan Toohey, USGS Alaska Climate Science Center / USGS Alaska Science Center, Anchorage
Water temperature is crucial in determining which species can survive in a stream and the timing of major life events for salmon and other fish. Understanding Alaska’s thousands of streams--from the mighty Yukon River to the smallest glacier-fed stream--requires good data from a wide spectrum of partners. Quality, organized data can help us understand landscape and regional level change occurring throughout Alaska.
Federal, state, and smaller data collecting entities often use a range of data formats that make hosting and distributing difficult. Participants at a workshop in 2015 set out to improve the storage and accessibility of statewide stream temperature data. This presentation will explore the ideas and proposed solutions to make stream temperature data more useful.
