April 26, 2016 Southwest Washington Adaptation Partnership Climate Change Workshop

What: A 1-day workshop to introduce the Southwest Washington Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment and develop adaptation options specific to management of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Resource focus areas include aquatic systems, vegetation and disturbance, special habitats, and ecosystem services.

Where: Vancouver, Washington (details to follow)

Who: Resource specialists from Gifford Pinchot National Forest and Pacific Northwest Regional Office, research scientists from Forest Service research stations and University of Washington, partners from Washington Department of Natural Resources, local tribes, Gifford Pinchot Taskforce, forest collaborative groups, and other interested groups or individuals.

Why: To influence climate change adaptation planning on the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Adaptation options developed at the workshop will be incorporated into the Southwest Washington Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment and will help resource specialists and other interested parties understand, mitigate, and adapt to effects of climate change on natural resources. The vulnerability assessment will provide a scientific foundation to support climate change adaptation in land management planning, ecological restoration, and project design that will have applications across a broad range of resources.
