Two new staff members have joined the California LCC
The California LCC welcomes to new staff members!
Claudia Mengelt joins as the new Science Coordinator. Claudia comes from the National Academy of Sciences and will begin her official duties on October 3, 2016. Claudia was the NAS lead for the review of LCCs in 2015/16 and has exceptional skills in integrating and applying science in inter-organizational partnerships. Her scientific expertise is in ecology, coastal systems, and climate science and her personal interest is building consensus and maximizing synergies among scientists, conservation practitioners, and private sector interests.
Kat Powelson started as the new Science Communication Coordinator. Kat comes from USGS and has been working on sea-level rise LCC funded projects over the last four years. Kat recently finished her masters from UC Davis conducting vulnerability assessments and adaptation strategies for Seal Beach NWR. Along with collecting data, she has helped to organize and facilitate local workshops, train participants in climate smart conservation, and deliver climate science to coastal practitioners.
